The Search

Within the WSP, every student must fill a credit requirement by interning with an agency in the Washington Metropolitian Area that is based on their respective area of study. American University prepares its students with cover letter information, and quick tips on professional dress and resume building. American University also gives students a website where they can go to look up respective organizations which is, https://washingtonsemester-csm.symplicity.com/students. However, the best resource the Washington Semester gives to its students is it's facilitation of an intership baazaar on its main campus. The bazaar gives students the chance to meet with various organizations in a professional setting and get information on the internships and offer their resumes to potential employers. On August 29th, at the bazaar  I was slightly nervous because you only have one time to make a first impression. I knew that my resume was extensive with my experiences as a intern on Capitol Hill with DC Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton, my second language immersion as a former China Exchange student, a former AmeriCorps Jumpstart member and more. Once I started introducing myself I was comfortable. I gave my resume to the Alliance for Justice, the American Association for Justice, the Black Student Fund and the DC Law Students in Court organization. I left the bazaar feeling good but not feeling great because some of the internships I wanted were not there and now, I had to truly facilitate the website instead of first impressions.
